Now that I have established who I am, I need to explain the purpose of this blog. I’ll be going to Ghana for a couple of months primarily to do a clinical elective at the Fevers Unit at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. I will also have a couple of weeks of vacation while I’m there and this blog will be a way for me to update my family and friends on my shenanigans.
Naturally I’m nervous. I haven’t been in Ghana for about 6 years. Worse yet, this will be my first time there as an adult and independent person. It’s really going to be interesting. I’m looking forward to seeing the various pathology I expect to see at the hospital, illnesses manifesting differently than they do here. I am also looking forward to just being in Ghana–the sun, the beach, mangoes–while everyone else over here has to tread through snow and biting cold. I also want to meet up with long-lost friends, and visit distant and not so distant family in the village.
I would post more (and you know I’m capable of writing tomes) but I need to go admit a patient!
