The Expats is the debut novel of Chris Pavone told by a former CIA assassin, Kate, who leaves her job to be a stay-at-home wife and mother when her husband, Dexter, accepts a computer-security job in Luxembourg. Just that, apparently her husband never knew what she did before. As she tries to settle into the total boredom that is being a stay-at-home American expatriate mother in Luxembourg, she begins to be suspicious of her husband who spends way too much time devoted to his “job”. So we have a husband and wife, married for over a decade who have no idea what the other does. Then they meet another American couple, a handsome Bill and Julia, whom Kate soon becomes suspicious of too. Deception upon deception. Tension building. Now you have the making of a frivolous but enjoyable spy book. Enjoy!
