I had booked a catamaran cruise with Jammin’, specifically their Sun Blast cruise. It seemed it would be a fun cruise from their website. However, the owner of the apartment I was staying in told me that it was usually crowded (hence it’s name ha ha) and that I should have gone with Cool Runnings instead which incidentally is where her son works. But, she said I may still be ok with my choice and asked me to track down a family friend who worked on Jammin’.
Jammin’ was to pick me up from my B&B. They were a bit late but traffic was crazy so they are excused. True, there were quite the number of people (~20) plus the crew but it was just right for me. Winnepeg, Canada; Trinidad via Canada; Atlanta, US, Connecticut, US; and London, UK were represented. Oh, and of course Barbados and yours truly.
First stop was snorkeling with the turtles. I had no plans to enter the water but how could I resist? The last time I submerged myself in water was in the late ’90s and that was the swimming pool in college. The fetching crew showed me how to put the gear on and I jumped into the ocean without a second thought. Maybe it was the Jammin’ rum punch I had just imbibed. 9am too. I swear this vacation is going to turn me into an alcoholic.
I admit I was slightly panicky my first few moments in the water but after relaxing I realized I remembered how to stay afloat. Or maybe it was the buoyancy of my life-jacket. Words cannot explain how beautiful the underwater scene was once I calmed down and started to swim towards the turtles underneath. Unfortunately I was unable to touch any, not that I didn’t try.
The second stop was another dive, this time to see sunken ships with shoals of colourful fish. I was much comfortable this time around and it was so refreshing to be in the water. Oh, my goodness, I think I love snorkeling.I wish I had an underwater camera.
Afterwards, I changed back into dry clothes and sunbathed in the scorching sun on the deck. Gorgeous day!
The crew fed us a delicious lunch, passed around several rounds of desserts, and oh yes, the free alcoholic drinks. The guy I was supposed to track down was working that day, so he made sure that I was enjoying myself once I let him know that I was staying with his “auntie”. I was definitely tipsy by the afternoon what with the catamaran rocking side to side and to and fro on the waters.
As we ended the cruise, two Cool Runnings catamarans passed us by. They certainly looked like they were having fun as well and had just as many occupants if not more as we did.
Overall, an extremely enjoyable day!
