Thursday saw me without any pre-made plans. I headed over to the Dover Beach Hotel/Turtle Beach Resort area to take advantage of the discount Captain Sam had offered me on a 30 minute water-sport when I run into him on Monday.
He had me sit in his shack while he sorted his crew out as to what to do. Then I got on my life-jacket, and off we went jet-skiing. Halfway through the exhilarating ride while hanging on with dear life to his life-jacket straps I realized I hadn’t signed any waivers or made any agreements on price.
The ride was maybe a little bit over 30 minutes. We sped off past Oistins where we saw some turtles and then to South Point, the southern most tip of Barbados near where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea. There were a number of surfers in this area. Then we turned around and headed past Dover to Accra Beach on the other side where we saw a couple more turtles.
Afterward, I paid full price ($50 USD discount with a $10 “tip” = $60 USD) and got a free ~ 15 minute sail. He went slow but I was still slip-sliding around.
I left that area and went over to the public access part of Dover Beach. All beaches are actually public in Barbados but some are the oceanfronts for hotels. I continued my water-sport day by parking myself on a lounge chair and watching the waves rush to my feet with a mango daiquiri at my lips. This I did for a good four hours or so under the scorching sun…minutes from where I was staying. Grand! I got offered jet-ski rides from Charles Watersports – and they only charged $50 USD for the same 30 minutes! Hmmmm!
My Thursday Watersports in Barbados ended with rainshowers while still on the beach. But I refused to be chased away. I laid there through the rain for another 45 minutes or so but the sun didn’t come back out. Schade!
When I went back to my apartment, I noticed that my normally pink bottom lip was brown and I had some serious “tan” lines going on as dark as I already am! Scary!
