The murders of African foreigners in South Africa at the hands of Black South Africans is so troubling, vile, barbaric, and cowardly.
I thought we were all “brothers”, fellow children of Mama Africa, yet here we are being persecuted for our nationality as they were once persecuted for their race.
More shameful that President Zuma and other South African leaders have for the most part kept quiet on the issue. Worse even that it was Zulu King Zwelithini who brought the spark to the party of resentment with statements such as, “”Let us pop our head lice. We must remove ticks
and place them outside in the sun. We ask foreign nationals to pack
their belongings and be sent back”.
and place them outside in the sun. We ask foreign nationals to pack
their belongings and be sent back”.
I am reminded of an experience I had in 2010 which I recounted in this blogpost. Though I felt much at ease in South Africa during the very jovial FIFA World Cup tournament, on that particular day I experienced some of the underlying despair Africans of a lower socioeconomic status live with there.
Xenophobia is just not very becoming on South Africa. They truly should be ashamed. Can’t really say much else at this point.
