When booking our flights to Thailand a few months ago we decided to forgo the cheap < $500 round trip tickets on Chinese airlines that would include layovers in Chinese cities. With the current 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak, I’m glad we didn’t book those tickets.
Instead, we flew Qatar Airlines, though also problematic initially with our mother because we would layover in Doha, in the Middle East, you know, Arab terrorism. Our aeroplanes were pretty much empty. So many people got whole rows to themselves to lay across the three seats for these long-haul flights. The crew was so nice that by the end of our journey our mother had declared that Qatar Airlines needs to fly to Ghana and that she would fly them again. See, you don’t knock things you don’t know.
Anyway, Thai immigration was painfully slow and I was particularly anxious because our plane had been delayed and I had a car service waiting for us. I was afraid it would leave without us but it did not. We were picked up and they took pictures of us at the airport and upon delivery, I suppose as proof of service.
We arrived at the hotel and after freshening up a bit, walked over to the very touristy Khao San Road for a feel of street food and loud banging music before calling it a night. Tomorrow was going to be a busy day!
