I booked us on a luxurious cruise on Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River, the Supanniga Sunset Dinner Cruise, more so for the cruise than for the food. On both points though we were not disappointed.
We took a Grab Taxi from our hotel through about 30 minutes of evening traffic to River City Pier Two. It cost us 110 baht which only highlighted how ridiculous it was earlier in the day when tuk-tuk drivers wanted 200 baht for what would have amounted to a 10-minute walk.
The sun was already setting when our cruise boat arrived for our boarding. But soon we were on board and they were pouring champagne into our flutes and bringing plate after plate of food that I forgot all about the sunset.
The Supanniga Dinner Cruise was spectacular. It was essentially a fixed 6 course Thai menu. I did worry about Mama but she didn’t do too bad considering how picky she is in general with food. I guess the champagne and the beautiful Bangkok skyline accompanied by Venus (the planet) and a crescent moon helped make the food more appealing to her.
For M’sa and myself, we enjoyed pretty much everything including my favourite Thai dessert, Mango Sticky Rice. My only complaint, if I can call it that, was that the food was plentiful. We kicked off with an amuse-bouche, had an appetiser, a soup, 3 main dishes, dessert, and a petit-fours finale.
The crew was very attentive at one point recommending we move to the lounge at the front of the boat for a beautiful picture opportunity. The skyline, in between bites of the delicious food, was great. Overall, the Supanniga Dinner Cruise was a spectacular end to our first full day in Bangkok.
